A beloved resident of Washington Heights\/Inwood (WH\/I), Ruth Contreras (Ruthy) is a Hispanic; 38-year-old, mother of four with a long association with various social service systems.\u00a0<\/p>

Raised in WH\/I, Ruthy states she \u201calways felt [she] needed to do something\u201d to escape the life of poverty that forced her to start working at the age of sixteen.<\/p>

In 2005, encouraged by the Office of Head Start\u2019s two-generation approach, Ruthy gained a child development associate credentialing certificate which she put to use as an assistant teacher in the state of Pennsylvania; as a steward of her children\u2019s school readiness journeys; and by advocating for the best educational experience for her third child who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in 2016. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

In 2018, while working the graveyard shift at a local diner, a regular customer encouraged her to apply to Boricua College (BC) – Ruthy seized that opportunity; returned to school and continued her educational journey as the first member of her family to attend college.\u00a0<\/p>

Ruthy is motivated to contribute her voice and passion to the mission of Siete-Sh\u00e9va Associates, Inc. because she believes \u201cculture and education are inseparable.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cI want to strengthen the community by focusing learning activities on solution to the problems facing our people\u201d \u2013 she said of her desire to suffuse community, culture, and education.\u00a0<\/p>

Three of Ruthy\u2019s children attend school in NYC\u2019s public education system; the fourth is a newborn.<\/p>

Ruthy is a passionate advocate for children with special needs.\u00a0 She holds an Associate Degree in Human Services and is currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in the same field.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A twenty-seven year old of Hispanic ancestry, JB Veras (JB) is a resident of Manhattan with deep community ties.<\/p>

A passionate proponent of human and LGBTQI rights, JB believes that \u201c… we function in a system that ostracizes compounded minorities that are voiceless during the decision-making process that affects their everyday lives.\u201d They are motivated to contribute their voice and passion to the development of Siete-Sh\u00e9va Associates, Inc. because they understand that \u201c\u2026 representation in boardrooms is more important now than ever.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>

JB brings expertise and experience with issues and concerns affecting gender non-binary individuals and the gender non-conforming community.<\/p>
